Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) have signed a Network Entry Agreement (NEA) to strengthen gas transportation from the Escravos Gas Plant into Nigeria’s national gas pipeline network.
The agreement provides the contractual framework for gas delivery into the Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System in line with the Nigerian Gas Transportation Network Code, establishing procedures for safe, efficient and reliable gas transportation as well as operational coordination between both organisations.
Speaking on the development, Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Jim Swartz, said the agreement reflects the commitment of the NNPCL/CNL Joint Venture to supporting Nigeria’s gas development objectives while ensuring safe and reliable gas supply.
He said the strengthened interface between Chevron’s Escravos Gas Plant and NGIC’s transportation network would enhance energy security, improve infrastructure efficiency and create long-term value for the country.
Also commenting, CNL’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Olusoga Oduselu, described the agreement as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s gas industry, noting that the adoption of a standardised Network Entry Agreement aligns the country’s gas transportation system with international best practices.
According to him, the framework clearly defines the responsibilities of the network operator and gas delivery facilities, helping to protect the safety, integrity and efficiency of the national gas transportation network.
The Network Entry Agreement governs gas injection into the national pipeline system and establishes protocols for information exchange and operational coordination between Chevron’s Escravos Gas Plant and NGIC, which manages Nigeria’s gas transportation infrastructure.
The agreement is expected to support the Federal Government’s drive to expand domestic gas utilisation, improve energy security and strengthen the country’s gas value chain.
