The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 63-year-old Chinese national, Ting Hung Kiong, for attempting to smuggle 31 kilograms of synthetic cannabis, popularly known as “Canadian Loud,” into Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The suspect, who reportedly resides in Malaysia, was apprehended on May 17, 2026, upon arrival from Thailand via Dubai on an Emirates Airline flight.

NDLEA operatives intercepted her at the Terminal 2 Arrival Hall after discovering two large suitcases containing the illicit consignment.

During interrogation, she claimed her daughter sponsored her trip and disclosed that she spent two weeks in Thailand before receiving the drugs at the airport for delivery in Nigeria.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives also recovered a massive consignment of opioids at the Lagos airport.

The seizure, made in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, involved 1,825,710 tablets of Tapentadol 250mg valued at over ₦2.1 billion.

The shipment had arrived from India via Emirates Cargo and was handed over to the agency on May 22 after close monitoring.

The agency described both operations as significant breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks.
