The Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, has ordered the remand of a 35-year-old civil servant, Joseph Chigbo, in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 5-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, U.E. Onochie, ordered the remand of Chigbo after his arraignment on one-count charge of defilement brought against him on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
The civil servant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Onochie adjourned the case until December 8, 2025, for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Chinyere Okechukwu, told the court that the civil servant allegedly committed the offence at Ezinifite in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State on July 13, 2025.
Okeckukwu told the court that the case was reported by the father of the 5-year-old girl on July 13.
