A 37-year-old member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) has been arrested for allegedly shooting a man during a dispute in Yantumaki town, Katsina State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on February 9.
The suspect, identified as Musa Idi, reportedly shot 55-year-old Ummaru Maulaye in the right leg during an altercation, resulting in a fracture.
The shooting sparked tension in the community, as some youths mobilised in protest, raising fears of a breakdown of law and order. However, the Divisional Police Officer quickly intervened to calm the situation and restore peace.
The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Dutsin-Ma, where he is receiving treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been taken into custody, while the rifle allegedly used in the incident has been recovered. Investigations are ongoing.
