The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. W. Shaibu, has assured troops of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt of enhanced welfare and better working conditions, while urging them to remain disciplined and committed to safeguarding the nation’s critical infrastructure.
Shaibu made the remarks on Friday during his first operational visit to the troops, commending them for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting assets vital to national security and economic stability.
Addressing officers and soldiers, the COAS emphasized the importance of their role in national development.
“Your job here is very key to protecting critical national infrastructure. When you perform it well, it will have a positive impact on the country’s economy,” he said.
Highlighting welfare as a top priority, Shaibu assured the troops that challenges affecting their operational effectiveness would be addressed.
He disclosed that the Army had approved immediate measures to tackle accommodation issues, benefiting over 150 soldiers.
“We have approved the construction of additional quarters, renovation of some existing ones, and completion of ongoing projects.
“This will significantly improve living conditions,” he said.
The COAS also revealed that efforts were underway to enhance access to quality education for the children of personnel, stressing that welfare improvements must go hand in hand with professionalism and dedication.
He urged the troops to remain loyal to constituted authority and to follow the guidance of their officers.
The visit concluded with an interactive session, where officers and soldiers raised questions on operational and welfare matters.
