The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports of a split within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the opposition party remains intact as it prepares for its national convention.
Wike spoke on Wednesday while briefing journalists after inspecting key infrastructure projects across Abuja. He maintained that claims of factions within the PDP were exaggerated and not reflective of the party’s reality.
“We have only one PDP, no faction,” Wike said emphatically. “Some individuals may have their grievances, yes, but that does not translate to divisions within the party.”
He added that reconciliation efforts would continue even as preparations for the convention progress. “That there is convention does not mean reconciliation won’t happen. Everything has its own time,” he stated.
During the inspection tour, Wike affirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to ensuring quality and timely completion of ongoing projects. He revealed that the bridge near the Fire Service is almost complete, with contractors assuring delivery within the next five months.
“From what we have seen, the job is of very high quality. I commend the company,” he said.
Wike further announced that the N5 Road project executed by Julius Berger has been fully completed and will be commissioned during President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary.
At the Nigerian Law School, the minister inspected 10 newly constructed staff bungalows, praising their quality and completion. He also assessed progress on the institution’s hostel projects, expressing satisfaction with the female hostel but concern over delays in the male hostel, though contractors have promised delivery between October and November.
According to him, the intervention at the Law School is unprecedented. “This is the first time a government is providing basic infrastructure for the Nigerian Law School,” Wike said.
He attributed the steady pace of infrastructure delivery to prudent financial management and strong political will. “It is not about how much money you have, but commitment. With commitment, you achieve results,” he noted.
Wike explained that the FCT relies heavily on internally generated revenue and only awards contracts it can fund. “Projects we don’t have money for, we will not award,” he stressed.
He credited President Tinubu’s support for the ongoing progress across the capital. “The momentum we are experiencing is due to a President who is committed to infrastructure development,” he said.
Wike assured Abuja residents that all ongoing projects would be completed as scheduled, reiterating the administration’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and service delivery in the FCT.
