A Chief Correctional Assistant (CCA) with the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abdullahi Nura, attempted to take his own life on Wednesday by jumping into the Gusau Dam in Zamfara State.
According to a statement from the Zamfara State Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC I Mustapha Abubakar, the incident occurred shortly after Nura reported for duty at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Gusau.
He later hired a commercial motorcycle to the Gusau Dam—the largest and deepest dam in the area—where he suddenly jumped into the water.
The motorcycle rider immediately raised an alarm, prompting a quick response from nearby staff and security personnel, who successfully rescued Nura from drowning.
The statement confirmed that Nura was found in his official uniform and had his service identification card with him.
