Court dismisses Aisha Achimugu’s N10bn suit against EFCC

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a N10bn fundamental rights suit filed by businesswoman Aisha Achimugu against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the search of her residence and seizure of her property.

Justice M.S. Liman dismissed the suit on Monday, ruling that the anti-graft agency had the statutory power to search Achimugu’s residence after receiving intelligence about her alleged criminal activities.

The businesswoman had asked the court to determine whether the EFCC acted within its powers by searching her home and seizing her cars, jewellery and other items.

She also sought enforcement of her right to privacy and an order restraining the commission from allegedly threatening, harassing or invading her residence.

Achimugu further demanded N10bn in damages over what she described as an invasion of her privacy.

Delivering judgment in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/466/2026, Justice Liman held that Achimugu and her legal representatives failed to establish grounds to justify the damages sought.

The judge dismissed the N10bn compensation claim, maintaining that there was nothing to prevent the EFCC from carrying out its statutory duties.

He described the suit as lacking merit, frivolous and brought in bad faith.

Reacting to the judgment, EFCC counsel, Emenike Mgbemele, welcomed the decision, saying it was in the interest of justice.

He added that the suit was an attempt to waste the court’s time.

The EFCC disclosed the judgment in a statement issued on Monday by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
