A Federal Capital Territory High Court has transmitted the case file in the fundamental human rights suit filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the Chief Judge of the FCT for reassignment.
The decision followed the announcement by the presiding judge, Justice Belgore, that he would be proceeding on leave, necessitating the transfer of the matter to another judge.
The suit, instituted by El-Rufai, seeks the enforcement of his fundamental rights against the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Department of State Services and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The court had earlier adjourned proceedings on Wednesday, February 25, to hear El-Rufai’s bail application before the development that led to the reassignment of the case.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, the former governor has remained in custody since he voluntarily reported to the EFCC on February 16, 2026.
The statement added that El-Rufai was later transferred to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission on the night of February 18.
The case is expected to be reassigned by the FCT Chief Judge, after which a new hearing date will be fixed.
