A High Court has set aside the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to dissolve the party’s executives at the state, local government and ward levels in Kano State.
The ruling was revealed in a post shared on Facebook by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson to the Kano State Governor.
According to the post, the court ruled that the dissolution amounted to contempt and ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending further hearing.
The decision effectively reaffirms the Abiya-led executive as the recognised leadership in the state.
Dawakin Tofa wrote that the court described the action of the NWC as contemptuous and directed that the dissolved structures remain in place until the case is concluded.
The judgment comes barely a week after the NNPP national leadership announced the dissolution of its Kano structures during an emergency meeting in Abuja.
