An Ekiti State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered the remand of 63-yer-old Prophet Akin Aderiye in the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ado Ekiti, for allegedly sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.
The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, ordered the remand of the prophet after the police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, urged the court to remand the defendant.
Oriyomi said the remand of the defendant would allow the police to complete their investigation and for onward transmission of the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for issuance of legal advice.
According to the charge, Prophet Aderiye allegedly sexually assaulted the minor on February 10, 2022, in Esure Ekiti in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, contrary to and punishable under Section 31 of the Child Right Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate said: “Application to remand the accused person for 30 days pending Police investigation is hereby granted.”
He, therefore, adjourned the case till March 21, 2022, for mention.
