A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has remanded a 19-year-old man, Istifanus Bitrus, over the alleged attempt to kill a nine-year-old boy for ritual purposes.
Bitrus, who is from Garkida community in Gombi Local Government Area, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Kabiru Musa on charges related to criminal charm and attempted culpable homicide.
The court ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody and adjourned the case to February 18, 2026, pending legal advice from the Adamawa State Ministry of Justice.
According to the First Information Report presented by ASP Zakka Musa, the suspect allegedly lured the victim, identified as Friday Musa, to a riverside and attempted to harm him as part of a suspected ritual.
Investigators also alleged that the defendant claimed he acted on the instructions of a spiritual leader.
The offences are said to contravene Sections 188 and 201 of the Adamawa State Penal Code.
