The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has threatened to close the defence of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, over his failure to defend the alleged terrorism charges against him.
The presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, gave the warning in Abuja on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, saying the defence would be closed if Kanu fails to open his case at the next hearing.
This comes after the prosecution closed its case and the court dismissed Kanu’s no-case submission.
Kanu drops plan to present defence, files no-case submission
Justice Omotosho said if Kanu failed to open his defence on November 5, he would be deemed to have waived his right to do so, and the court would proceed accordingly.
The development comes after the matter was adjourned on October 27 for the defendant to either file his final written address or open his defence.
The judge, therefore, adjourned till November 5 for the IPOB leader to either enter his defence or be deemed to have waived his right to do so.
