Court warns Sowore: Your bail’ll be revoked if…

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday warned that it will revoke the bail granted to Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore if he makes comments deemed capable of threatening national peace.

Justice Mohammed Umar issued the warning while granting Sowore bail on self-recognition after he pleaded not guilty to five counts filed by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS accused the human rights activist of labelling President Bola Tinubu “a criminal” on his social media accounts.

Sowore’s lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, challenged the competence of the charges, but the court ruled that his arraignment must proceed.

The judge noted that Sowore, a former presidential candidate whose passport remains with the court, was entitled to bail but must refrain from incendiary remarks.

The DSS opposed the bail request, arguing that Sowore had a history of disobeying court orders.

However, Justice Umar admitted him to bail and cautioned that any further statements capable of undermining national unity would lead to its revocation.

Justice Umar adjourned the case to January 19, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
