Covenant University ranked best varsity in Nigeria, among World’s 1,000

Covenant University (CU) in the Ota area of Ogun State has been named Nigeria’s leading institution in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World Rankings.

THE announced this in its latest ranking published on its website on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

The rankings, which assess the performance of universities worldwide, placed Covenant University within the 801-1000 range globally, alongside the University of Ibadan (UI).

The 2024 rankings feature 1,907 universities in 108 countries.

Institutions are evaluated across five areas – teaching, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international outlook, using 18 performance indicators.

The 2024 ranking drew from an extensive analysis, including over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and feedback from 68,402 scholars.

The process included over 411,789 data points from more than 2,673 institutions globally.

While Covenant University excelled in Nigeria, the global ranking was topped by the University of Oxford for the eighth consecutive year.

Stanford University climbed to second place, while Harvard University slipped to fourth.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology moved to third, while the University of Cambridge dropped to fifth from last year’s joint third position.
