Covenant University, UI, FUTA, UNILAG ranked best universities in Nigeria

Covenant University, the University of Ibadan (UI), the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been ranked by the Times Higher Education as the best universities in Nigeria.

This was contained in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings released on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

Covenant University was listed as the best university in Nigeria, UI followed in second position, while FUTA emerged third.

UNILAG and Bayero University, Kano (BUK) emerged fourth and fifth in Nigeria, respectively.

The Ranking Web stated that the World University ranking includes 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions.

It said: “The Times Higher World University ranking includes 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions.

“The table is based on our new WUR 3.0 methodology, which is carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across five areas; teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.”

Others Nigerian universities listed in the top ranking include the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN); University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN); Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD); University of Benin (UNIBEN); Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB); Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH); Lagos State University (LASU); Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK); Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU); University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

Among the 15 top universities, nine are located in the South-West, two in the South-East, two in the South-South, one in the North-West, and one in the North-Central.

The latest ranking showed that Covenant University is among the top 1,000 universities in the world.

The university owned by the Living Faith Church Worldwide (fondly called Winners Chapel) is placed within the global 801-1000 range.
