Davido: Losing my son changed my life

Award-winning Nigerian singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has described the death of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi, as a turning point in his life and career.

Ifeanyi drowned in a swimming pool at Davido’s residence in Banana Island, Lagos State, in October 2022.

Speaking in a recent interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido said the death of his son reshaped his outlook on life and refocused his priorities.

He also commended his wife, Chioma, over how they handled the tragedy, adding that the proper handling of the incident gave them the strength to move forward.

Davido said: “Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back on my career gave me a refocus on how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life.

“I know how many people randomly like in the airports will come to me like, ‘bro, you don’t know how your strength has gotten me through life.’ You know what I’m saying? But I’m just, me and my wife were talking the other day, I was like, I’m proud of us, man, you know what I’m saying?

“Like now we got twins, you know, they’re big, shouting everywhere, but like, you know what I’m saying? But for us to, you know, go through that and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge.”

The singer and Chioma got married in a lavish wedding in Miami, the United States, on Sunday.
