Nigerian music star Davido has paid a touching tribute to his late son, Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke, nearly three years after the tragic incident that claimed the toddler’s life.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the award-winning singer simply wrote, “Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke. RIP Legend,”—a brief but powerful message that stirred an emotional response from fans and followers around the world.
Ifeanyi, Davido’s first son with his now-wife Chioma Rowland, tragically drowned on October 30, 2022, in a swimming pool at the singer’s residence in Banana Island, Lagos.
The incident shocked the nation and triggered widespread mourning.
In 2023, Davido publicly opened up about the immense grief he endured following the loss.
He admitted that the pain was unlike anything he had experienced, revealing that even though he had found ways to cope, the emotional wounds remain.
“I miss him every day,” the singer said at the time.
“There are tears in my eyes every morning. You might not see it, but it’s there.
“I look at myself in the mirror, and I remind myself it’s not just about me.
“So many people love me and depend on me.”
After the incident, police launched an investigation, interrogating eight members of Davido’s household staff.
Two workers — his nanny and cook — were detained for further questioning, while the others were released.
Despite the tragedy, Davido and Chioma found reason to smile again when they welcomed a set of twins in the United States in October 2023.
The couple later held their traditional wedding in June 2024, sealing a relationship that had quietly spanned over a decade.
In an interview later that year, Davido confirmed that Chioma had been his girlfriend for 12 years, underscoring the deep bond they’ve shared through both joy and sorrow.
The singer’s tribute serves as a reminder of the enduring love a parent holds for a lost child—and the strength it takes to keep moving forward while carrying the memory of such a profound loss.
