Delta police nab community leader, 4 others over sexual assault at festival

The Delta State Police Command has detained a community head and four other suspects in connection with the alleged sexual assault of young women during a festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.

The arrests were made after viral videos surfaced online showing scenes of harassment and molestation in the community, sparking outrage and public concern.

Reacting via a statement issued on Friday, March 20, 2026, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, described the incident as a serious criminal offence and a violation of the victims’ rights and dignity.

He disclosed that the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, promptly ordered a full-scale investigation after reviewing the footage, adding that the directive led to the arrest of the alleged chief organiser, Chief Omorede Sunday, along with four other suspects.

Edafe noted that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed investigation and further legal action.
