The father of late Afrobeats singer Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has appealed to Nigerians for help over the disappearance of his son’s SUV, just days after the artiste’s death.
In a video that surfaced online on Tuesday, the distraught father said the vehicle went missing shortly after Destiny Boy passed away. He alleged that the SUV was taken back to the dealership where it was purchased and has not been accounted for since.
According to him, the SUV was bought from Lycon Autos, and he was present when his son completed the purchase. He explained that the dealership provided a driver to deliver the vehicle to their residence on the day it was bought.
He added that Destiny Boy later continued to use the same driver for personal errands. However, problems reportedly began when the driver claimed the singer owed him money and, without notifying the family, returned the SUV to the dealership.
Appealing to the public, the grieving father said he does not even have the driver’s contact details and has been unable to trace the vehicle.
“My son bought an SUV from Lycon Autos, and we went together to complete the purchase. They assigned a driver to bring the car home. Later, my son kept using the same driver. The driver later said my son was owing him and took the car back to where it was bought from without informing us. Nigerians, please help me,” he pleaded.
Destiny Boy died on Sunday at the age of 22. His mother revealed in an interview on Monday that the singer had been unwell before his death.
She disclosed that he had battled a long-term illness she described as “Ogu oru,” which often resulted in seizures. According to her, the illness resurfaced shortly after the naming ceremony of his child, leading to his eventual hospitalization.
She explained that the family sought both medical and traditional care in an effort to manage his condition, stressing that they did everything possible to ensure he recovered fully.
The late singer’s father also dismissed rumours circulating online that Destiny Boy was involved in money rituals. He condemned those spreading such claims, describing them as false and insensitive attempts to gain attention from his son’s death.
The family has continued to mourn the young musician while appealing for clarity over the missing vehicle and urging the public to disregard misinformation surrounding his passing.
