The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that 16 officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria will face disciplinary action over alleged acts of indiscipline and breaches of military regulations.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau.
According to Gusau, the officers were apprehended during a routine exercise after investigations uncovered conduct deemed inconsistent with military ethics and discipline.
He explained that some of the officers’ grievances stemmed from perceived career stagnation due to repeated failures in promotion examinations and other service-related issues.
“Some of the apprehended officers had earlier been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct was found incompatible with the standards of the military service,” Gusau said.
He added that upon conclusion of investigations, all those found culpable would face disciplinary measures in line with the Armed Forces Act and established military justice procedures.
Gusau stressed that the move was part of ongoing efforts to maintain order, discipline, and professionalism within the armed forces.
He assured Nigerians that the military remains steadfast in upholding its core values of loyalty, integrity, and constitutional obedience under democratic authority.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria will not tolerate any behaviour that undermines its cohesion or threatens its constitutional role. We remain fully committed to professionalism and the defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty,” he stated.
