Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s inability to provide credible leadership and address Nigeria’s growing challenges.
In a letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman in his Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye declared his total withdrawal from the party at all levels. The letter was made public on Thursday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” the former lawmaker wrote, criticizing the PDP for what he described as a lack of capacity to rescue Nigeria from its deepening political and governance crisis.
Melaye, who ran as the PDP’s candidate in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, said the decision came after deep reflection on the party’s direction and effectiveness.
“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in its activities or support its agenda,” he added.
He concluded by asking the party to consider his resignation effective immediately.
