A woman, Latinate Sanusi, told a Shari’a court in the Magajin Gari area of Kaduna on Monday that she would not move out of her former husband’s house despite his confirmation of divorce.

Sanusi, a mother of six daughters, made the statement in response to a suit filed by her ex-husband, Abdulrazak Yunusa.

He had asked the court to affirm the threefold pronouncement of divorce he made and to compel her to vacate his residence.

“I have six children, all girls. I want to remain in the house so I can care for them, especially since he barely provides for their needs,” Sanusi told the court.

Yunusa, however, insisted he fulfills his responsibilities and accused Sanusi of lacking submission, which he claimed led to the divorce.

Presiding over the case, Judge Malam Kabir Muhammad confirmed the validity of the three pronouncements of divorce, declaring the marriage officially dissolved.

“There is no marriage between them unless she remarries and that marriage ends,” the judge stated.

He added that the case before the court was solely for confirmation of divorce, and matters regarding child custody could be brought before the court as a separate case.
