The Rivers State Police Command has relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and another senior officer of their duties following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the Abuloma Police Outpost and later visited the facility to celebrate the completion of the project.

The Command said the affected officers had also been queried pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation ordered by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju.

The action followed a viral social media video and reports alleging that suspected cult members renovated the police station and visited the facility on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to mark the completion of the project.

Speaking on the development via a statement issued on Friday, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Kaborlo, said the Command viewed the allegations seriously and would not tolerate any act capable of undermining the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.

Kaborlo stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, adding that they “must not become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation or influence.”

Kaborlo added that Adepoju had directed a full-scale investigation into the incident to determine the true circumstances surrounding the renovation and establish whether police procedures were breached.

She stated: “Under the leadership of CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, fcai, the Command maintains zero tolerance for criminality and any conduct that undermines public confidence in the Police.

“Consequently, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer overseeing the affected Police Outpost have been queried and relieved of their duties pending investigation.

“Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the veracity of the allegations, including:

“The identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups who financed or facilitated the renovation; the police officers who authorised or approved the project; whether due procedures were followed; whether any officer breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the Force; and the extent of any involvement by Police personnel.”

Kaborlo acknowledged that communities are permitted under the Nigeria Police Act 2020 to support the improvement of police facilities, but stressed that such assistance must not compromise the independence or professionalism of the Force.

“The investigation will establish whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation. No donation or assistance confers immunity from investigation or prosecution,” Kaborlo added.

Kaborlo further reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality, stressing that no officer would be allowed to maintain improper relationships with criminals.

She warned that any personnel found to have engaged in unprofessional conduct or compromised the integrity of the Force would face disciplinary and legal action in accordance with the outcome of the investigation and existing laws.
