DSS raids bandits’ negotiator residence, office in Kano

The operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have raided the residence of the negotiator of the abducted March 28 Abuja-Kaduna-bound train passengers, Tukur Mamu, in Kaduna State.

It was gathered that Mamu’s residence was raided by the DSS operatives in the early hours of Thursday.

It was further learnt that the security operatives, after raiding Mamu’s house, went to his office in Kaduna.

This is coming barely 24 hours after Mamu, who is the spokesperson of the Kaduna-based cleric, Sheikh Gumi, was arrested by the DSS operatives at the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.

The Star had earlier reported that Mamu was arrested at the Cairo International Airport in Egypt while awaiting a connecting flight to Saudi Arabia.

Mamu was later flown back to Nigeria by Interpol on Wednesday and was arrested alongside his family members by the DSS operatives who were stationed at the entrance of the international wing of the Kano airport.

The DSS had stated that Mamu’s arrest followed the request of the security agencies.

The Service spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya, in a statement issued on Wednesday, described Mamu as a person of interest who need to answer “critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country.”

Mamu, who is the Publisher of Desert Herald Newspaper in Kaduna, negotiated the release of some of the abducted train passengers.

He later announced his withdrawal as the lead negotiator in securing the release of the abductees after he alleged a threat to his life by the Federal Government.
