DSS: We’ll ensure seamless inauguration of Tinubu on May 29

The Department of State Services (DSS) has declared its readiness to work with other agencies in the country for the “seamless” inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, as Nigeria’s President on May 29.

The DSS vowed to resist any plot to undermine the inauguration of the incoming administration, saying it would work with other security agencies to rid Nigeria of criminals ahead of the forthcoming event.

The secret police made the declaration via a statement issued on Tuesday, May 16, by its spokesman, Peter Afunanya.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and the DSS had said there were plans by some individuals in the country to set aside the constitution and install an interim government after May 29.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, on Monday, May 15, warned against plans to disrupt the inauguration of the incoming administration, saying such plots will be crushed by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) alongside other security agencies in the country.

Baba stressed that the inauguration of the incoming administration on May 29 is sacrosanct.

However, the DSS spokesperson, on Tuesday, noted that every attempt to undermine democratic transition will be resisted by the security operatives.

Afunanya stated: “The Service wishes to state and very clearly, that it will continue to collaborate with sister agencies to rid the nation of criminal elements, particularly at this transition period and even beyond.

“This is more so that certain persons are desperate to undermine the process. But the Service will resist this and ensure a seamless event.

“It will always cooperate with stakeholders to achieve a peaceful environment critical to the pursuit of legitimate businesses by law-abiding citizens and residents.”

He added that the DSS operatives, police, and the troops of the Nigerian Army arrested no fewer than five terrorists and recovered two suicide jackets following a raid on the insurgents’ hideouts in Kaduna and Kano states on Monday, May 15.

Afunanya disclosed that the arrested terrorists and others were regrouping in the North-West region of the country to carry out dastardly acts in the area.
