The Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Maria Oligbi-Edeko, has resigned from her position, citing the minority status of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House.
Oligbi-Edeko, representing Esan North East II, was elected deputy speaker of the House on June 16, 2023, and served in that capacity until her resignation.
In her resignation speech on Monday, May 19, 2025, the former deputy speaker said she resigned to allow for justice, fairness, and equity for all the constituencies.
She thanked the leaders and members of the PDP for finding her worthy to represent her constituency in the House.
