The lawmaker representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Marcus Onobun, has been involved in an auto crash in Edo State.
It was gathered that Onobun, who is the immediate past Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, was travelling from Benin, the state capital, to Abuja when the accident occurred along the Ekpoma-Abuja expressway on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
It was learned that the incident occurred after the vehicle the lawmaker was travelling in fell into a ditch and somersaulted multiple times.
The wreckage of Onobun’s vehicle, a dark-brown Mitsubishi SUV, showed a detached airbag system, a shattered windshield, and a disfigured roof.

Confirming the auto crash on Friday, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi, disclosed that the lawmaker sustained injuries during the accident and had been hospitalised at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Aziegbemi said: “I can confirm that he had an accident on Wednesday and he had fractures in some parts of his body but he is responding and not in critical condition.
“When I visited him on Thursday, we spoke and he even told me how the incident happened. I wish him a quick recovery so that he can get back on his feet and contribute to the development of his people as he has always done.”
Onobun, a member of the PDP, was elected to the House of Representatives during the 2023 general election.
