EFCC arraigns Peace Corps commandant, finance director over alleged N60m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akon, and the Corps’ Director of Finance, Omolala Aminat Ahmed, before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja over alleged misappropriation of N60 million.

The defendants appeared before Justice H.B. Yusuf on Thursday, December 11, 2025, facing a two-count charge of criminal misappropriation of funds allocated to the Peace Corps.

The first count alleges that Akon and Ahmed conspired to commit an illegal act in 2024, while the second count claims they dishonestly converted N46 million of the N60 million meant for a contract to supply badges for personal use.

Both defendants pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

Following their pleas, prosecution counsel Khalid Sanusi requested a trial date.

Justice Yusuf adjourned the matter to February 25, 2026, for the commencement of trial and granted bail of N5 million each, with one surety in the same amount.

The sureties must be reputable residents of Abuja
