A yet-to-be-identified officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been confirmed dead after slumping in Lagos State.
A video being circulated online revealed that the EFCC officer who was not in uniform slumped and died in an undisclosed part of Lagos State on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
The video showed the lifeless body of the operative of the anti-graft agency being surrounded by sympathisers including some police officers who coordinated a search on the deceased officer’s bag.
“He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him,” a man said in the video.
The incident was confirmed by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Monday, January 27.
EFCC names academy building after slain officer
Oyewale said: “The man is our officer. His death is being investigated.
“The incident happened on Sunday.”
This comes after a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Ikechukwu, allegedly killed an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, Aminu Salisu, during a raid in the Onitsha area of Anambra State.
The EFCC operatives were said to be on a mission to apprehend some suspected internet fraudsters when they were ambushed.
The anti-graft agency later condemned the killing, saying justice would be served.
“As for the EFCC, every subsequent attack on any of its officers will be met with the force of the law. The Commission will not fold its arms and allow any of its officers to be killed again in cold blood,” Oyewale stressed.
