EFCC summons billionaire Okoya’s sons over naira abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited Wahab and Raheem Okoya, the sons of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya, for questioning over alleged naira abuse.

Raheem and Wahab have been summoned to the EFCC office in Lagos on Monday, January 13, 2025.

This followed a viral video showing the billionaire businessman’s sons allegedly abusing the naira alongside a police officer.

The police officer was seen in the viral video holding wads of naira notes as Wahab and his brother gyrated to a song at an event held recently in Lagos.

Speaking on the incident on Friday, January 10, the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the policeman had been identified and detained.

Adejobi stated: “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action.

“The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical.

“We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police. Thanks.”

Raheem later issued a public apology via his X account, saying: “To the Nigerian people, my actions were not to cause any trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive.

“I ask for your forgiveness and support in this situation as I had no intention to raise such an alarm. I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action.”

However, the summon of Okoya’s sons was confirmed by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale on Saturday.

“Yes, they have been invited,” Oyewale said.
