The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze as the first Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services, marking a historic milestone in the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the appointment follows the upgrade of the Police Medical Section into a full-fledged directorate aimed at improving healthcare delivery for police personnel nationwide.
Egbetokun congratulated AIG Eze, urging her to apply her medical and administrative expertise to make the directorate a model for excellence in police healthcare.
“AIG Eze is a distinguished clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator with over 27 years of meritorious service,” the statement read. “Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and from Agbudu, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, she holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.”
Eze’s career has spanned postings in Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the FCT, and Lagos, where she made significant contributions to police healthcare and officers’ welfare.
Egbetokun described the creation of the directorate as a strategic investment in the well-being and productivity of police officers, emphasizing that improved healthcare is essential to the Force’s operational efficiency and morale.
