The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of over 53,500 personnel across the country to ensure a safe and peaceful Eid al-Fitr celebration.
Commandant General Abubakar Audi ordered the nationwide deployment, which includes tactical operatives and intelligence units positioned across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement issued by NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, the corps said the move is aimed at strengthening security, addressing emerging threats, and protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure during the festive period.
The deployment covers key locations such as shopping malls, Eid prayer grounds, mosques, churches, motor parks, and recreational centres, with both uniformed and undercover personnel assigned to monitor activities and prevent crime.
Audi also directed zonal commanders, state commandants, and heads of NSCDC institutions to ensure effective security coverage within their jurisdictions, alongside intensified patrols.
He stressed the importance of collaboration with other security agencies through intelligence sharing and rapid response to emergencies reported by the public.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, which signifies the end of the Ramadan fasting period.
