Eid-el-Kabir: Gov Yusuf donates livestocks, food items to prison inmates

The Kano State Government has donated food items and livestock to inmates across correctional centres in the state as part of preparations for the Eid-el-Adha celebrations.

The donation, presented to the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, comprised 15 cows, 115 bags of 50kg rice, 40 jerry cans of cooking oil, and assorted soup ingredients. It was delivered by the Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Hajiya Azumi Namadi Bebeji.

Presenting the items, Bebeji said the gesture reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to improving the welfare, dignity, and rehabilitation of inmates, adding that the administration remains focused on supporting vulnerable groups and implementing humane policies aimed at restoring hope and promoting reintegration.

“Social welfare and correctional support programmes are key priorities of this government, aimed at encouraging reformation within custodial centres,” she said. She also conveyed the governor’s goodwill message to inmates, urging them to continue praying for peace, unity, and progress in Kano State.

Receiving the items, the Controller of Corrections in Kano, Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene, commended the state government for what he described as a timely and impactful gesture, saying it would uplift the morale of inmates and allow them to participate in the Sallah festivities with a sense of inclusion.

Lakpene added that the donation aligns with the broader efforts of the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to improve inmate welfare across the country.
