The Ekiti State House of Assembly has summoned officials of the State Sports Council over the “shabby outfits” worn by the athletes during the opening parade of the ongoing Sports Festival in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Babatunde Oke, a copy of which was available to newsmen on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
Oke, who condemned the embarrassment caused by the attires put on by the Ekiti State athletes in Asaba, called on the officials overseeing sports in the state to appear before the House Committee on Youth and Sport on Tuesday, September 26.

The lawmaker said the summon became necessary to unravel the circumstances behind the athletes’ poor outfits, adding that the attire worn by the athletes at the event was not a reflection of the values and standards upheld by the state.
He said the Sports Council officials must appear before the lawmakers as a proactive measure against future occurrence of the situation.
The Assembly recently passed the Ekiti State Sports Commission Bill into law in its bid to promote and enhance sporting activities in the state.
