Electric glitch disrupts Lagos airport operations

An electric spark on Wednesday compelled the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to divert flights from Terminal 3 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The FAAN Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Agbebire disclosed that the terminal was shut following the spark in an operational office, which resulted in smoke emission at 2:05 p.m. on Wednesday.

Agbebire said electrical maintenance was ongoing to ensure that all electrical systems would function optimally ahead of the terminal’s reopening.

He added: “All flights that currently operate from Terminal 3 have been diverted to Terminal 2. Passengers are hereby advised accordingly.

“The situation is under control as personnel of the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services promptly responded and contained the incident.”
