Neurosurgeons at Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital, Enugu, have successfully carried out two complex brain surgeries, with both patients recovering remarkably within days.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Christian Anieke, disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing the institution’s staff and management. He said the specialists removed a blood clot from an elderly patient’s brain and performed a decompressive craniotomy on another patient with severe brain swelling after a stroke.
Anieke described the feats as evidence of the expertise and teamwork of the hospital’s neurosurgeons, anaesthetists, and support staff, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to world-class healthcare delivery.
He further announced that nursing students would resume academic activities at the university’s main campus in October, while the institution had also secured international research grants, underscoring its global recognition.
The Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Frank Akpuaka, lauded the achievements and revealed that the university had acquired a N1 billion CT machine and new facilities to support its expansion programme.
