Enugu varsity dismisses staff over forged transcripts

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, has dismissed a staff member, Mrs Fidelia Ochasi, over the alleged forgery and issuance of fake university transcripts.

Ochasi, an official of the university’s Industrial Training Unit, was found guilty following an investigation into the allegation, according to the institution.

Her dismissal was communicated in a letter dated August 6, 2026, and signed by the university Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu.

The university said the decision followed the consideration of the report and recommendations submitted by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, which investigated the matter.

“The management, after deliberations, found her guilty and ordered her dismissal from the services of the university with effect from August 5, 2026,” the letter stated.

Following the dismissal, Ochasi was directed to return all university property in her possession to the Director of the Industrial Training Unit, ESUT.

The development comes amid a separate resolution of the industrial dispute that recently disrupted academic activities at the university.

Students of ESUT have welcomed the settlement between the state government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, ESUT chapter, which brought an end to the recent strike.

A student, Dorothy Nnamani, described the resolution as a relief, particularly for final-year students who had been affected by the disruption.

“The students are happy, especially those in the final year,” Nnamani told our correspondent.

She expressed hope that the agreements reached between the government and the lecturers’ union would be implemented without further delays.

“We also hope the implementation of the agreements will be seamlessly carried out. We thank the state for attending to the matter urgently,” she said.
