Aston Villa missed the chance to put pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Everton on Sunday.
Thierno Barry’s second-half goal landed the spoils and broke Villa’s 11-game winning run at Villa Park, meaning Arsenal will end the weekend seven points clear at the top.
Villa stay in third place in the table on 43 points from 22 games, seven points behind leaders Arsenal, who now have a sizeable lead in the title race.
Everton climb to 10th place on 32 points.
Bottom side Wolves also snapped Newcastle United’s three-match Premier League winning streak in a 0-0 stalemate on Sunday, as the embattled hosts went unbeaten in five straight matches, including four league games, for the first time this season.
Eighth-placed Newcastle host Aston Villa next Sunday, a day after Wolves, 14 points below safety, visit Manchester City.
