European-American varsity denies awarding honorary degree to Rarara

The European-American University has disowned an honorary doctorate degree purportedly awarded to popular musician Dauda Kahutu Rarara, describing the ceremony in Abuja as fraudulent.

At an event held on Saturday at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, and attended by dignitaries including Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, Rarara and three others were conferred with honorary degrees by individuals who claimed to represent the university.

However, in a statement on its website, the university clarified that it neither authorized the convocation nor awarded degrees to Rarara, Alhaji Ahmed Saleh Jnr., Mustapha Abdullahi Bujawa, or Tarela Boroh.

It further emphasized that the names of genuine graduates and honorees are available in its official register.

The institution also disowned persons parading as its officials, including Musari Audu Isyaku, falsely described as its Northern Nigeria representative, and Idris Aliyu, wrongly presented as a Governing Council member.

The university stressed that it has no governing council and has revoked Mr. Aliyu’s 2024 fellowship for his role in the scheme.

It also reminded the public that its former Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Josephine Egbuta, dismissed earlier this year, no longer has any authority to act on its behalf.

The university, currently registered as a nonprofit in France and holding a Royal Charter from the Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara in Uganda, warned that those behind the fake awards will be reported to Nigerian authorities for prosecution.
