Ex- Buhari’s aide demands probe into MTN’s 56GB data charge

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmed has called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to investigate MTN Nigeria over what he described as questionable data billing.

Ahmed made the call in a post on X, after receiving an MTN notification stating that his data usage on August 11, 2026, was initially recorded as 58,189.91GB before being corrected to 56.83GB.

He said the reported consumption was impossible, noting that he had not engaged in any heavy data-consuming activity on the day in question.

“There is absolutely no way I could have used 56GB in a single day when I didn’t do any heavy data-consuming activity,” Ahmed said.

He added that his phone automatically connects to Wi-Fi whenever he is at home, further questioning how such a large volume of mobile data could have been consumed.

Ahmed urged the NCC to scrutinise MTN’s data billing system and caution the telecommunications company against what he described as cheating Nigerian subscribers.

“MTN needs to explain how this 56GB was supposedly consumed,” he said, insisting that Nigerians deserved accurate billing and value for their money.
