Former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has resigned as Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing zoning considerations following the emergence of the party’s new National Chairman from the North-West.

Makarfi’s resignation letter, dated November 17 and addressed to BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, said it was improper for both the BoT Secretary and National Chairman to come from the same geopolitical zone.

His exit comes days after former Minister Kabiru Turaki was elected PDP National Chairman at the party’s 2025 national convention in Ibadan.

Makarfi noted that he had attempted to resign two months earlier but stayed on at Wabara’s request until after the convention.

He said stepping aside would ensure balance and give the new chairman “full space to do the needful.”

Makarfi thanked BoT members for their support during his tenure.
