Former Minister of Sports, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has denied any involvement in an alleged plan to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.
The denial follows the arrest over the weekend of a medical doctor and pastor, Tombari Gbeneol, founder of Life Forte Chapel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Security operatives from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Unit reportedly arrested Gbeneol over an alleged plot to target Wike.
According to reports, the arrest came after authorities intercepted a phone conversation between Gbeneol and Danagogo, who is also the immediate past Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG).
In the recording, the suspects allegedly discussed involving Israeli nationals in the alleged plot and securing funding from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
However, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday evening, Danagogo, through his Special Assistant, Barrister Obele Briggs, dismissed the claims as false and fabricated.
He insisted he had no contact with anyone regarding violent acts and was never involved in any discussions, meetings, or plans relating to assassination or unlawful activity.
The statement described the allegations as “reckless, malicious, and deliberately crafted to smear his hard-earned reputation” and urged the public to disregard the reports.
Danagogo reaffirmed his commitment to peace, justice, and the stability of Rivers State, stating that he is freely at home and willing to cooperate fully with law enforcement if called upon.
