The former Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, has been confirmed dead.
It was gathered that Maigida died after he slumped in Abuja, the nation’s capital, on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
Maigida’s death was confirmed via a post shared by ex-NAF spokesman, Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu (Rtd), on his Facebook page on Monday, April 3.
“I join the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and men and DOPRI personnel to mourn the death of Air Commodore Wap Maigida. A dependable subordinate to his superiors and a compassionate superior to his subordinates,” Shehu stated.

Maigida assumed office as the NAF spokesperson on January 6, 2023, taking over from his predecessor, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who is now the Commander 551 NAF Station in Jos, Plateau State.
He was also a former Aide-de-Camp to the former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep.
Maigida, a member of the 42 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, was commissioned into the NAF in 1995.
The senior officer holds a Master of Science Degree in Security and Strategic Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History both from NDA.
He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertisement from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Lagos State.
