Explosion rocks APP secretariat in Rivers

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has been detonated at the Action Peoples Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

It was gathered that the explosion occurred at about 1 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, causing significant damage to the building.

Confirming the explosion, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said no life was lost in the incident.

Iringe-Koko stated that the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit had been deployed to sweep the scene.

She noted: “We are aware of the explosion at APP secretariat and our bomb unit has been dispatched to ascertain what happened.

“No life was lost and an investigation is underway. We will share the findings with the public soon.”

The police spokesperson added that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and his management team also visited the scene of the explosion to assess the damage.

Iringe-Koko said an investigation was still ongoing and promised to provide findings once concluded.
