Nigerian speciality chemicals manufacturer Falcon Chemicals Limited has marked four decades of operation, drawing praise from industry stakeholders for its resilience in a sector where many indigenous businesses have failed to outlive their founders.
Founded in 1985 by chemist Chief Francis Babatunde Adefarati, the Lagos-based firm produces surface coating and additive materials — including preservatives and thickeners — used by paint and coatings manufacturers across Nigeria.
Speaking at the anniversary event, Managing Director Babatunde Adefarati Jr said the company was now focused on expansion beyond Nigeria’s borders.
“Our next chapter is to expand across Nigeria, expand within Africa and build global partners across the world,” he said, describing innovation as central to the company’s identity.
Wema Bank representative Tunde Mabawonku, who attended the event, praised the firm’s track record through shifting economic conditions.
“The company has demonstrated a resilient character that has made it survive good and bad times,” he said.
The event also served as a one-year remembrance for the company’s late founder.
Abimbolu Babatunde, a former colleague of the elder Adefarati and chairman of the Paint Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, recalled meeting him at Berger Paint in 1980 and credited his mentorship for shaping a generation of industry professionals.
“I am not surprised that his company has survived for so long, while others fell apart,” he said.
The anniversary brought together clients, industry stakeholders, and members of the manufacturing sector, and included long-service awards for staff.
Discussions centred on sustaining growth and deepening local manufacturing capacity.
