The family of a 65-year-old woman, Regina Nwoye, has petitioned PresidentBola Tinubu, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and security agencies, demanding a thorough investigation into her killing and the prosecution of all those responsible.
The petition, signed by the deceased’s daughter, Blessing Uwechia, a broadcast journalist, called for justice over the incident, which occurred on July 14, 2026, at Nwoye’s residence in Ogbu Village, Ivite Umueri, in Anambra East Local Government Area.
According to the family, the deceased was repeatedly stabbed and left bleeding after the attack.
The petition stated that residents who responded to her cries apprehended one suspect, identified as Sunday Ndukaife, and handed him over to the police. However, the family alleged that eyewitnesses saw more than one person at the scene, suggesting that additional suspects may have been involved.
“My mother was brutally attacked, stabbed and left to bleed to death. Someone heard her shouting and alerted other villagers, but by the time they arrived, she had already sustained life-threatening injuries,” the petition said.

The family also claimed that Nwoye’s chances of survival were reduced after several hospitals allegedly failed to provide immediate medical treatment.
They alleged that she was moved between hospitals in Awka for hours before eventually dying from her injuries.
The petition urged authorities to carry out a comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation, identify and arrest any other suspects involved, and determine whether the attack was planned or financed by others.
“Our family is not asking for special treatment. We are asking for what every Nigerian deserves—truth, justice and accountability,” the petition added.
The family also appealed to the police to keep them updated on the progress of the investigation and ensure that all suspects found culpable are prosecuted.
Reacting to the petition, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed receiving the document.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said, “I have seen the petition. I don’t know who is investigating the case.”
However, as of the time of filing this report, he had yet to provide further details on the investigation despite subsequent enquiries.
