Former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, will headline the next edition of the “God in My Life” lecture series organised by the Torchbearers Society of the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral (AVMCC), Ikeja.
The event is scheduled for 2pm on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
In a statement, the President of the Torchbearers Society, Adeoye Ojuoko, and the Vice President and Programme Coordinator, Olajide Afolabi, said Fashola was selected because of his record in public service, leadership and infrastructure development.
Afolabi said the lecture series had provided a platform for prominent Nigerians to reflect on the role of God in their personal journeys, leadership and public service.
Previous speakers, he noted, included former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Emeka Anyaoku, and late diplomat Christopher Kolade.
He said Fashola’s Muslim faith did not constitute a barrier to his selection, stressing that the programme was founded on inclusiveness and the celebration of God’s providence irrespective of religious affiliation.
Afolabi also cited Fashola’s family as an example of interfaith harmony, noting that his wife is a Christian.
The Dean of the cathedral, Venerable Ariire Kolawole, will host the event, while the Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Dr James Olusola Odedeji, will serve as chief host.
Afolabi expressed confidence that Fashola’s reflections on faith, family, leadership and public service would offer valuable lessons to participants and make the event memorable.
