FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
Resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for approving the payment of 13 months’ hazard allowance arrears and a one-month wage award, describing the move as a strong demonstration of commitment to healthcare workers’ welfare.
The commendation was contained in a letter of appreciation dated January 15, 2026, by the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory (ARD-FCTA). The letter was signed by the association’s President, Dr. George Ebong, and General Secretary, Dr. Yusuf Israel Lissa.
According to the doctors, the payment of the longstanding hazard allowance arrears and the wage award reflects the minister’s “exemplary leadership” and dedication to equity and fairness in the health sector.
“This timely intervention underscores your dedication to equity, fairness, and the recognition of the sacrifices made by doctors and other health workers in the course of service in the FCTA,” the association said.
The resident doctors reaffirmed their commitment to constructive engagement and collaboration with the FCT Administration to advance the health sector and ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to residents of the territory.
ARD-FCTA also acknowledged the roles played by other key officials in facilitating the payments, including the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud; the Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan; the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Ezeh; and the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe.
Others recognised include the Permanent Secretary, Treasury and Budget, Mr. Adamu Ibrahim Wanki; the Permanent Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Baba Gana Adam; the Permanent Secretary, Common Services, Mr. Ajayi Rotimi Babatunde; the Overseeing Director-General of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Ahmadu Abubakar; and the Director of Clinical and Diagnostics, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Osagie Osayande.
The association said it looks forward to sustained cooperation with the FCT Administration in strengthening healthcare delivery across the territory.
