FCT resident doctors suspend strike

The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has suspended its indefinite strike.

The president of the association, Dr George Ebong, confirmed the suspension of the industrial action on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Ebong stated that the decision to suspend the strike followed interventions from the Senate, adding that the resident doctors will return to work on Monday, September 22.

“We are suspending the strike to begin work at 8 a.m. Monday morning,” Ebong said.

He, however, revealed that none of the doctors’ demands have been met so far.

Contractors threaten to halt waste collection in Abuja over salary arrears

The ARD-FCTA is an association of doctors practising in the 14 district and general hospitals, including the Department of Public Health under the FCTA.

The resident doctors embarked on a warning strike on Monday, September 15, to press home their demands after months of unresolved negotiations with the FCTA.

The doctors are demanding the payment of salary arrears ranging from one to six months, owed to members employed since 2023.

They also want the immediate recruitment of new staff, settlement of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, and payment of arrears arising from the 25–35 per cent upward review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, among others.
